Chapter room

Built in the 13th and extensively altered in the 18th century, the chapter room was the daily meeting place of the community. It was also the place where all breaches of the community’s rules were judged. This is where the French verb « chapitrer » (to reprimand somebody) comes from. Originally, this room was supported by four columns. A  twin window from the Romanesque period remains. This is the oldest perfectly preserved architectural element in the abbey.
