Timeline

The timeline traces 650 years of the abbey’s history. From its foundation in 1146 by 18 people (1 abbot, 12 monks and 5 lay brothers) from Clairvaux Abbey  to its dissolution in 1796, through the peak period of the monastery in the 13th century, the monks’ various exiles  for security reasons and the second golden age in the 18th century. The key dates in history between the late Middle Ages and the French Revolution are presented in parallel. A beautiful collection of old roses has been placed along the timeline.
