The Abbot’s Palace

In 1720-1721, Abbot Jacques Hache had a palace built in the neoclassical style. It included the abbot’s apartments, the quarters of the distinguished guests, the quarters of the brother-treasurer (responsible for keeping the accounts), a reception room, a library, as well as a room where the monks’ corpses were laid to rest before their funeral. The establishment of this luxurious palace was accompanied by the development of a main courtyard and a series of terraced gardens with fountains and flower beds.
